This award is given to the senior graduating with the highest GPA in Social Work who has completed at least 60 credits at JMU.

Katherine Burson

Katherine Burson graduated Magna Cum Laude in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree and a minor in family studies.  She completed her field practicum at Pleasant View, an agency which provides a supportive environment for persons with developmental disabilities. She engaged in numerous community service activities while at JMU, including supervising children twice weekly so their parents could take ESL classes and working as a social work intern at Rockingham Memorial Hospital  assisting the medical social worker with discharge planning.  She worked with the Jeremiah Project for five summers as staff /assistant director working with disadvantaged children and their families. As a member of the National Association of Social Workers – Program Unit she served as secretary and co-leader in 2011-2012.
