Laura Rogers, a JMU sociology student and Secretary of the Sociology Club on campus, has received 2nd place in Alpha Kappa Delta's annual national student paper competition. Alpha Kappa Delta is the international honor society for sociology.
The title of the winning chapter in her honor's thesis is "Helping Them Help Themselves: Contradictions' Between Volunteers' Moral Identities and Their Reproduction of Class Boundaries". With this honor, Laura is awarded a $250 cash prize and Alpha Kappa Delta will pay her expenses to the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association. This year, ASA is being held in Atlanta, Georgia and Laura will be presenting her award winning paper at this event.
