Shelly earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Computer Information Systems from Robert Morris College, Chicago, IL, a Master of Education degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Independent Film & Digital Imaging from Governors State University, University Park, IL.
