The MEd in Education with a concentration in Spanish Language and Culture for Educators program is specifically designed for licensed Spanish teachers who are currently teaching. It is also designed for those employed in a related field who want to further their education in pedagogy and Spanish language and culture, but are not seeking licensure to teach. It is critical that students have access to a classroom or a site in order to conduct their final applied research project. Students are exposed to the Spanish culture and life in Europe and in the United States. Candidates to the program should be comfortable interacting with people from other cultures and backgrounds and should be enthusiastic about improving their Spanish language skills.

Students in this program obtained two degrees from two different universities. They receive an MEd in Education with a concentration in Spanish Language and Culture for Educators from James Madison University and a Masters for Teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language degree for the University of Salamanca. This program is designed with educators in mind. Students keep their regular job, while attending the program. The face-to-face classes are during the summers and the rest of the semesters classes meet online in the evening. Due to the collaboration between both universities, students get exposed to faculty from both institutions and learn from highly experienced professors.

Students who apply to the program are expected to demonstrate a B2 level of Spanish according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. All courses taught by USAL faculty will be in Spanish. For international students, TOEFL or IELTS is necessary. The faculty for the program will consist of professors from both universities who will work collaboratively to provide students with a rewarding experience.
