Leona K. Barlow Scholarship

 Information:

Established with a gift from the Estate of Leona K. Barlow for an endowment for Home Economics scholarships. Since Home Economics became part of the Health Sciences Department, the scholarship funds will benefit a Health Science student.

 

Minnie Christiansen - Margaret Miner Endowed Scholarship

 Criteria:
     Need Based? No
     Freshman Only? No
 Information:
An endowed scholarship established by Drs. Ted and Marjorie Christiansen in honor of their mothers, Minnie Christiansen and Margaret Miner. The scholarship is intended to benefit one senior majoring in Dietetics who has achieved the highest average at the end of seven semesters. No student will receive funds from this scholarship for more than one year.
 

Juanita and Trammell Fishback Memorial Scholarship

 Criteria:
     Need Based? Yes
     Freshman Only? No
 Information:
An endowed scholarship established from the estate of Juanita Fishback, who died in 1984. Originally restricted to Living Sciences students, however restriction changed to Dietetic students in September 1990. Dietetics faculty shall make recommendations to the department head of potential candidates. Further restrictions are: outstanding student; financial need; expendable funds available.
 

Martha Irvin '56 Scholarship Endowment in Dietetics

 Criteria:
     Need Based? No
     Freshman Only? No
 Information:
An endowed scholarship established by Martha Irvin, the Martha Irvin '56 Endowed Scholarship in Dietetics will provide scholarship support for undergraduate students whose chosen field of study and research is Dietetics, a major discipline within the College of Integrated Science & Technology. Each year, scholarship funds will be provided to one outstanding undergraduate student scholar, renewable for up to four academic years beyond a student's freshman year of study. The selection of Martha Irvin '56 Scholars shall be made in a manner determined at the discretion of the Dean for the College of Integrated Science & Technology. Beyond the above criteria, the appointment of a student to receive this scholarship shall follow the university's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
 

Karina McMullan Award for Occupational Therapy

 Information:
A recognition award for outstanding and deserving Occupational Therapy (OT) graduating students. Named in honor of Karina McMullan.
 

Joanne Pearson Dietetics Scholarship

 Criteria:
     Need Based? Yes
     Freshman Only? Yes
 Information:
An endowed scholarship named for Dr. Joanne Pearson honoring her twelve years of service to JMU and the dietetics program. The scholarship is intended to benefit a JMU student in the dietetics program, with preference being given to a student who is experiencing financial difficulty. The student may be an entering freshman, an undergraduate, or graduate student. The recipient must complete a scholarship application and be selected from other applicants by the faculty of the program of Dietetics. In addition, the recipient must maintain satisfactory academic progress. This scholarship will be administered by the program of Dietetics within the Health Sciences department.
 

Dorothy Rowe Dietetic Award

 Criteria:
     Need Based? No
     Freshman Only? No
 Information:
An endowed award established by the Dietetics Program in the Department of Health Sciences in honor of Dr. Dorothy Rowe service to JMU and to the Dietetic Program. The recipient must be a senior majoring in dietetics who has a high grade point average, is active in the dietetic club, and has gained experience in various dietetics-related areas, either as a paid employee or as a volunteer.
 

Spitzer (Margaret) Family Scholarship Fund for Health Sciences

 Criteria:
     Need Based? No
     Freshman Only? No
 Information:
An endowed scholarship established by Margaret Spitzer in honor of the Spitzer Family. This scholarship is intended to benefit a JMU student who meets the following criteria: This recipient should be a student from Rockingham or Fairfax County VA, who enters the Department of Health Sciences, with preferences for students in the academic programs of Dietetics or Nutrition. The intent is for the same student to have this scholarship throughout his/her JMU enrollment. If at any time the student recipient fails to meet the requirements or when the student graduates, a new student will be selected based on the established criteria. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the University Scholarship Committee upon recommendation of the Department of Health Sciences
