Scholarship Overview
An endowed scholarship established by the parents of Demetric Walker, who was an alumnus of the JMU Class of 2000. This scholarship is intended to benefit a JMU undergraduate student majoring in History who is a U. S. citizen. The recipient will have financial need and hold a GPA of at least a 3.0 or its equivalent. High school records will demonstrate GPA of high school seniors matriculating to JMU. Involvement in service activities, as established on the application, will be a consideration. The application process will include a written essay examining how the study of history helps them better understand the relationship between religion and society. The recipient will continue to receive the scholarship as long as they remain active, full-time students at JMU and continue to meet the scholarship requirements. If a student fails to meet the requirements or a student graduates, a new student will be selected based on the established criteria. The History department will recommend each recipient to the Director of Scholarships based on the above criteria and available funds.
