Accenture Innovation Business Plan Competition Student Scholarship Award

Alexander B. Berry Jr./Parrish Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established April 5, 1989 honoring Alexander B. Berry, Jr. and Linwood G. Parrish, to give support to those students who could not attend college without financial assistance. Recipients shall be rising sophomores or higher, shall have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 and shall be majoring in any College of Business program. They shall have demonstrated leadership and citizenship capabilities. Choice of recipients shall be based initially on financial need and secondly on recommendation of faculty and friends of the College of Business. Recipients shall be chosen by a committee appointed by the Dean of the College of Business.
 

Bilbrey, Busing, Reid, Tansky & Teer Endowed Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to benefit a potential or present outstanding, full-time student(s) with a Bachelor of Business Administration major that has a financial need. Preference may be given to an entering outstanding freshman student(s) with financial need and who has declared a Bachelor of Business Administration major. The scholarship could be renewed for a maximum of ten full-time semesters including any transfer credits as long as the student remains eligible. A scholarship selection committee appointed by the Dean of the College of Business will annually recommend the scholarship recipient(s) to the university's director of scholarships.

Michael Matthew Brown Memorial Scholarship

An endowed scholarship established in memory of Michael Brown, who died Jan. 3, 1992. He attended JMU from 1987 to 1991 and majored in Accounting Information Systems. The recipient shall have a major in the College of Business; must demonstrate financial need; 3.25 GPA or above; extracurricular activities. The scholarship will be awarded each year and is non-renewable.
 

Nancy Revercomb Brubaker '56 Endowed Scholarship for Foreign Exchange Students in the College of Business

Michael L. Carrier ('87, '91) Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Purpose of the Gift is to create the Michael L. Carrier (’87, ’91) Memorial Scholarship Endowment in the College of Business in memory of their son, Michael L. Carrier. Dr.and Mrs.  Carrier would like to establish an endowment for a scholarship to be awarded annually to students pursuing a major in the College of Business. To qualify as a Carrier Scholar, the recipient must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.  Selection of recipients will be made in a manner determined at the discretion of the Dean for the College of Business. Beyond these criteria, the appointment of students to receive these scholarships will follow the University’s guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.

Gregory W. Cross 1975, 1978 and Linda Weiss Cross 1977 Endowed Family Scholarship

An endowed scholarship established with a gift from Gregory W. Cross 1975, 1978 and Linda Weiss Cross 1977 to provide the financial resources for an endowed scholarship in the College of Business. Through this Scholarship, funds will be provided annually to outstanding undergraduate students, including both students entering college for the first time and students already enrolled in college.

The appointment of a student as a Gregory W. Cross and Linda Weiss Cross Family Scholar shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships; provided however, that the following specific conditions are noted:

The Donors' intention is to provide scholarship support for undergraduate students who are enrolled as full-time students. The scholarship recipient is to be a resident of Virginia, with a grade point average of 3.1 or higher based on a scale of 4.0 as a graduate of their high school. The Scholarship recipient must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the University's Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships

Each year scholarship funds will be provided to one outstanding student scholar, renewable for up to three additional academic years as long as the student maintains a grade point average of 3.1 or higher based on a scale of 4.0. It is intended that the funds available in a given year be used to support students with significant financial need, up to the limit of their unmet need for annual tuition and fees. Any remaining unexpended funds will support additional students.

 

Elizabeth and Melvin Eldridge Scholarship

Recipients shall have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, shall be rising seniors and shall have a major in any College of Business program. Demonstrate leadership and citizenship capabilities. Executive Advisory Council Endowed Scholarship

An endowed scholarship established by The Executive Advisory Council. It is intended that this endowment be used to provide funds annually to one or more outstanding undergraduate student scholars who demonstrate both high academic achievement and financial need, with financial need being the paramount criterion, with the selection of student scholar(s) to be determined at the discretion of the Dean for The College of Business. As long as the selected student(s) continue to meet the eligibility requirements for this Scholarship, it may be renewed for up to three additional academic years. Beyond these criteria, the appointment of a student to this Scholarship shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
 

Ferguson Family Scholarship Endowment

An endowed scholarship created with a gift made by Janet Ferguson for the benefit of James Madison University and will provide the financial resources to establish and support the Ferguson Family Scholarship Endowment in the College of Business. Through this Scholarship, funds will be provided annually to one or more outstanding undergraduate student scholars enrolled in the College of Business who demonstrate a need for financial assistance, as determined by the University's Office of Financial Aid. The appointment of a student as a Ferguson Family Scholar shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships; provided, however, that the following criteria shall be part of the decision-making process.

Specifically:

  • Students must be residents of Augusta County or the City of Staunton at the time they are considered as candidates for this scholarship.
  • Students shall not be selected for this scholarship solely on the basis of their academic achievement; but, may be considered on the basis of their potential and need.

In the event that there are no students from Augusta County or the City of Staunton eligible to receive this scholarship in a given year, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student who is a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

 

A-J ('92) & Beth Fischer Scholarship Endowment in Finance for the College of Business

An endowed scholarship established with a gift by A-J and Beth Fischer to provide the financial resources to establish and support the A-J ('92) & Beth Fischer Scholarship Endowment in Finance for the College of Business.

This scholarship shall be merit-based - and, all students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance may be eligible for consideration without regard to their place of residence, with the selection of Fischer Scholars to be made in a manner determined at the discretion of the Dean for the College of Business. Beyond the criteria noted above, the awarding of this scholarship shall be in accordance with the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarship.

 

Philip Wade Hall Memorial Scholarship

An endowed scholarship established by Mr. and Mrs. James L. Hall in memory of their son Philip, a rising senior at JMU, to fund a scholarship to students majoring in business. Restricted to students from Virginia, with preference given to those from First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach or from the Tidewater area.
 

Heath-Mullin Family Scholarship

An endowed scholarship established by Holly Heath Mullin, '79 and William J. Mullin in honor of the many persons in their family who have either attended or been employed by James Madison University. This scholarship is intended to benefit a JMU student who is a Virginia resident with a major in the College of Business. If at any time the student recipient fails to meet the requirements or when the student graduates, a new student will be selected based on the established criteria. Additional scholarships will be awarded when expendable-earnings are sufficient to fund the total costs of education for another recipient. The recipient will be selected by the Dean of the College of Business and members of the College's Scholarship Committee.
 

The Dr. Robert E. Holmes Scholarship

 Information:
An endowed scholarship established in honor of Dr. Robert E. Holmes, who served as Dean of the College of Business from 1983 to 1995. This fund will provide an annual scholarship award for an incoming freshman student with a declared business major. The recipient must have demonstrated financial need. The award recipient, while in high school, must carry a minimum academic performance level of B, along with demonstrated service and leadership throughout his or her high school career. The recipient shall be selected by a committee appointed and chaired by the Dean of the College of Business.
 

Jay B. Keyser '79 Endowment for Scholarships

 Information:
An endowed scholarship established by Jay B. Keyser '79, the Jay B. Keyser '79 Endowment for Scholarships shall provide assistance to deserving students with financial need. It will support students in the College of Business. Through this Endowed Scholarship, funds will be provided annually to an outstanding undergraduate student scholar who demonstrates a need for financial assistance, as determined by the University's Office of Financial Aid. The appointment of a student as a Keyser Scholar shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships; provided, however, that the following additional criteria shall be a part of the determination process. Specifically: To be eligible for this scholarship award, a student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Each year scholarship funds will be provided to one outstanding student scholar, renewable for up to three additional academic years, but only if the appointed student maintains a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship shall be limited to one student at a time, so that it may reduce the financial need of each Keyser Scholar up to the full of amount of an academic year's tuition and fees before it were to be used to assist one or more other students.
 

Norm Kuhl Memorial Scholarship

An endowed scholarship created by The Adolph Coors Brewery - Shenandoah, the Norm Kuhl Scholarship Fund to support James Madison University College of Business was established in memory of Norm Kuhl, former plant manager for The Coors Brewery Shenandoah, who exceeded in life despite significant hardships. This scholarship is intended to benefit a College of Business student who has need or has experienced a hardship. If at any time the student recipient fails to meet the requirements of when the student graduates, a new student will be selected based on the established criteria. The scholarship recipient will be selected by the University Scholarship Committee upon recommendation of the College of Business.
 

Madison Business Scholarship Endowment

An endowed scholarship established with a philanthropic gift by Jason M. Minton '03, James D. Bonnell '02, Michael J. Marcantonio '03, Michael Lentine '03, David M. Krause '03, James M. McDonald '02 and Jonathan D. McWhinney '02 , known here as the Madison Business Scholarship Group; the Madison Business Scholarship Endowment will provide funds annually to one (or more) outstanding undergraduate student scholar(s). The appointment of a student as a Madison Business Group Scholar shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships and the criteria set forth below. The manner of administration for the scholarship selection process shall be at the discretion of the Dean for the College of Business; and, this selection process shall be guided by the following criteria. Specifically, candidates for this scholarship must: Have a minimum of a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average at the time their candidacy for this scholarship is under consideration; Demonstrates financial need - determined by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships; Demonstrate exceptional moral character and a well- rounded personality - evidenced by active involvement within the James Madison University community and the community generally,
 

J. Willard & Alice S. Marriott Foundation Student Scholarship & Mentoring Program

Jacqueline V. McGhee Memorial Scholarship

An endowed scholarship established by Fredric I. McGhee, in memory of his wife, Jacqueline V. McGhee, in recognition of her commitment to the education of their children. She was very proud that each of their four children graduated from James Madison University. This scholarship is intended to benefit a rising senior studying within the JMU College of Business. The student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25. The student must demonstrate both outstanding leadership ability and dedication to service. The Dean of the College of Business will select the recipient upon the recommendation of the faculty of the College of Business.
 

John "Jack" McNelis Scholarship

McPherson Scholarship for the College of Business

Established with a gift from Amy C. McPherson '83, the McPherson Scholarship for the College of Business will provide funds for undergraduate student scholar in the College of Business. The Donor directs that this scholarship is to benefit under- represented students in good standing who demonstrate the need for financial assistance, as determined by the University's Office of Financial Aid & Scholarship - with preference given to students with a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher; the minimum academic performance level for students to be eligible for this scholarship is a 2.75 GPA. In any particular year, if there is not an undergraduate student within the College of Business who meets all of these criteria, then the scholarship may be awarded in that year to an under-represented student in another College within the University who otherwise meets all of these criteria. In the case of McPherson Scholars within the College of Business, the selection will be made in a manner at the discretion of the Dean for the College of Business; and, in the case of McPherson Scholars who may not be students within the College of Business, the selection will be made in a manner at the discretion of the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. Beyond the criteria and alternatives noted above, the appointment of a student as a McPherson Scholar shall follow the University's guidelines for the awarding of scholarships.
 

Zane D. Showker Business Scholarship

An endowed scholarship intended to benefit a JMU student in the College of Business. The recipient must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipient to be selected is to be a Junior or Senior who has shown an aptitude for business and has displayed outstanding leadership within the College of Business. The student will continue to receive this scholarship as long as he/she remains an active, full time student at JMU within the College of Business and continues to meet the scholarship requirements. If at any time the student recipient fails to meet the requirements or when the student graduates, a new student will be selected based on the established criteria.
 

Jack C. Smith Scholarship Fund for the College of Business

Established by the Jack & Judy Smith Foundation, Inc., The Jack C. Smith Scholarship Fund for the College of Business, which will provide financial resources to encourage and support outstanding graduates of the following community colleges in Virginia - the Mountain Empire, Virginia Highlands, Southwest Virginia or Wytheville Community Colleges - who wish to pursue the study of one or more business-related disciplines at James Madison University. To be eligible for appointment as a Jack C. Smith Scholar, a student must meet the following criteria at the time of consideration for this scholarship. Specifically, candidates must demonstrate that they: (a) are enrolled in the second year of study in an associate degree program at one of the above-named community colleges; (b) have been accepted for admission to James Madison University; and (c) have declared or intend to declare upon matriculation - a major in the College of Business.

Beyond these eligibility criteria, students shall be selected for this scholarship in a manner determined at the discretion of the Dean for the College of Business; provided, however, that the primary basis for the selection of scholarship recipient(s) from among those students eligible for consideration shall be the student(s)' record of academic performance. Once a student is selected as a Jack C. Smith Scholar as a rising junior, the scholarship may be renewed for the student's senior year as long as the student is in good standing with the university and has maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale). The presentation of the scholarship funds will be made annually.

In the event that no student from the above four community colleges meets the criteria for this scholarship, the Donor directs that

 

Wright Family Scholarship

An endowed scholarship established by William F. Wright in memory of his sister, Eleanor Wright, Class of 1963, because of their family devotion to each other, and in gratitude to the University.

This scholarship is intended to benefit a full time student in good academic standing, who is pursing an academic program within the College of Business, and who is a Virginia resident. It is preferred that the same student receives this scholarship during his/her four years of college. If at any time the student recipient fails to meet the requirements, or when the student graduates, a new student will be selected based on the established criteria. Additional scholarships may be awarded when expendable income is sufficient to fund other scholarships for additional student recipients. The scholarship recipient is chosen at the discretion of the Dean for the College of Business.
