Waste Disposal

See Hazards in the Chemical Laboratory or Prudent Practices for Handling Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories for specific disposal procedures.

The chemistry department will periodically contract with a chemical disposal company to dispose of unwanted and waste chemicals.

Waste for "commercial" disposal should be put into a suitable container (preferably glass, if possible). A departmental waste label should be filled out and attached to the container. The waste container and duplicate copy of the label should be left in the stockroom for the CHO.

Before a worker's employment ends, chemicals for which that person was responsible should be discarded or returned to the chemical storeroom.
