University Health Center Fire Policy

PROCEDURE:

Harrisonburg Fire Department - 911 (Dial 9911from JMU)

Campus Police - ext. 6911

Location of fire Alarms:

  • North double door
  • North Combination door
  • West door (front door)
  • Room #8 door

Location of Fire Extinguishers:

  • Kitchen
  • wall outside of Rooms 5 and 6 (behind glass door)
  • wall across from nurses' lounge (behind glass door)

In the event of a fire, the person discovering the fire will see to it that the fire alarm is activated* and a call is made immediately to the University Police dispatcher, emergency number 6911, while having the building evacuated. IF ONLY REASONABLE TO DO SO, fight the fire, either until it is extinguished, or, evacuate the building and await the arrival of the police and fire personnel.

* If the smoke detector has not already activated the alarm, manually pull an activation station

Responsibilities:

  • RN STAFF - check for patients in rooms 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b, 9, and 10

  • CAs or RECEPTIONIST - check for patients in rooms 105, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, Lobby and Lobby Restrooms

  • DIRECTOR, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, OR ASSISTANT DIRETOR - notify VP Student Affairs

  • If Harrisonburg Fire Department is called, Campus Police must also be called.
