Mower Safety

  1. General Safety

    1. If have to get off - set brake and shut off

    2. If checking chute - shut mower off

    3. Check guards, belts, and fluids daily

    4. Use safety approved gas cans - don't add gas with the engine running

    5. Use appropriate gas in mower/tractor

    6. When mowing around walks, driveways and roads - always throw grass away from

    7. Never leave a running mower unattended

    8. When mowing, always check unfamiliar areas for objects

  2. PPE

    1. Wear kidney belts when mowing

    2. Wear ear muffs, goggles, glasses, dust mask and safety helmet

  3. Walk Behind Mowers

    1. Never cut up/down grades - cut across - slip hazard

    2. Operate mower in a forward position - don't pull back toward feet

  4. Ride On Mower

    1. When transporting - tie mower down with chains

    2. Look behind you before backing up

    3. Follow the rules of the road

    4. Be aware of your surroundings (people, objects, etc)

    5. Don't use your hands to clear the mower of obstructions

    6. Be aware of loose dirt/gravels - disengage blades

    7. Cut up/down grade - not across - could tip

    8. If you feel the grade is too steep, do not mow (go get Buck hahaha) mower with outriggers should be used

    9. Watch out for obstructions

    10. Use care when mowing around trees (low branches)
