Safety Plan: Bomb Threats

If you receive a bomb threat:

1. Remain calm.
2. Attempt to keep the caller talking while you reference the Bomb Threat Checklist below.
3. Initiate EVACUATION PROCEDURES.
4. Call Campus Police at 540-568-6911.

Bomb Threat Checklist

Questions to Ask the Caller:

1. When is the bomb going to explode?
2. Where is the bomb located?
3. What kind of bomb is it?
4. Why did you place/mail the bomb?
5. What is your name?

Try to be conscious of the following sounds:

• Office machines
• Factory machines
• Street noises
• Voices
• Children
• Animals
• Static
• Music
• Radio
• Dishes
• Any other unique sounds

• Male or female
• Young or old
• Soft or loud
• Fast or slow
• Calm or excited
• Angry or laughing
• Accent type
• Raspy or nasal
• Deep or high
• Lisp or stutter
• Cracking, slurred, or crying
• Any other unique characteristic
