What is Camp Buckner? Camp Buckner is an eight-week course held at West Point, New York and sponsored by the United States Military Academy. ROTC cadets participate in wide range of activities with the Corps of Cadets from the USMA. Weapons familiarization is stressed, along with branch orientation, land navigation, confidence course, and close-quarters combat techniques. During the second half of training, cadets participate in a week long light infantry patrol in Operation Highland Warrior and travel to Fort Knox, KY for a week of Mounted Maneuver Training at the US Armored Warfare Center. Cadets who compete the training will gain confidence for LDAC and have the opportunity to fire weapons and use equipment not generally available in ROTC. They will also have a much more through branch orientation than at the LDAC, and have a chance to learn about the USMA and its cadets as well as teach the West Point cadets about the ROTC program. Finally, cadets who attend Camp Buckner will make a number of friends who they will be working with throughout their future Army careers. Questions? Contact a cadre member |
