Keala Mason
Keala Mason is the Coordinator of Sport Clubs and Youth Programs at UREC and her role is to help manage the 42+ sport clubs on JMU’s campus, facilitate UREC’s Summer Camp and Kid’s Night Out programs, as well as manage the Informal Recreation staff.
Keala joined the UREC team in the Fall of 2005 as a undergrad. During that time she held a wide range of positions in Operations, Equipment Services, Fitness, Group Fitness, Aquatics, Safety, Youth Programs, eventually being awarded the JMU Student Employee of the Year in 2009. She received her undergraduate degree in Art History. In the Fall of 2010, she became the Sport Clubs and Youth Programs Graduate Assistant. Throughout her assistantship, she was the Virginia State Student Representative for NIRSA and was honored with the 2012 NIRSA William Wasson Student Leadership award. In 2012, Keala earned her Masters of Science with a concentration in Campus Recreation Leadership.
Keala has lived in many different places before coming to JMU, including Kaiserslautern, Germany. Her favorite activities include traveling, art and graphic design, photography, and music. She is an avid sports fan and truly enjoys watching sports as well as participating in any sport—ESPN is her most frequently watched channel. Keala likes game shows like Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, going to the movies, vegetarianism, dancing and choreography, and likes any type of music ranging from electronica to country. She’s working on cultivating “grown up” hobbies such as cooking, writing, and blogging. Her favorite thing about UREC is the people because she has met her best friends here and truly became part of the UREC family.
