Madison Dance

Madison Dance Club provides an opportunity for students to express themselves through various forms of dance, including but not limited to jazz, hip-hop, street and contemporary. Madison Dance performs all around campus for different events, and we also perform for great causes in Harrisonburg. In the past, we have performed at Sorority sponsored late night breakfasts, charity events, pep rallies, MS sleep outs, JMU's Got Talent, performances at retirement home talent shows, Operation Santa Claus, Relay for Life, Special Olympics, and university events. Not only do we do these performances to help out other organizations we have an end of the semester show each semester; we have a pretty full schedule.

Our "season" begins the second week of each semester and ends before finals week, unless there is a conflict with when our end of the semester performance, thus causing us to push the end date back to the week of finals.
Tryouts occur once every semester; one try-out for Fall and one tryout for Spring. Tryouts are held in the UREC MAC Gym around the second week of school. Students in good standing with the University (2.0 cumulative GPA) are eligible for membership after attending auditions and being offered membership. As a member, one is required to attend organization practices and meetings regularly, pay dues, and actively support organization projects, attend performances, and attend team-bonding events. Currently, each member pays $45 dues per semester, but it is subject to change.

Each section (jazz, contemporary, hip-hop and street) practices once a week for 2 hours. Street typically practices Monday nights from 9PM until 11PM. Hip-Hop typically practices Tuesday nights from 9PM until 11PM. Jazz typically practices Wednesday nights from 9PM until 11PM. Contemporary typically practices Monday nights from 9PM until 11PM.
