Competitive Cheerleading

Info: The Competitive Cheerleading Club is perfect for the cheerleader who has a genuine passion for the sport of cheerleading and is looking for a challenge. Welcoming both rookies and veterans, this team does NOT compete at football or basketball games, but rather is a competition team. It is extremely necessary for each member to promote good sportsmanship at all times. While winning and doing successful in competitions is a significant element in competitive cheerleading, the JMU Competitive Cheerleading Team sets goals other than coming home with trophies. We have about 20-25 members.

Our season starts as soon as school does, ends typically in March. We usually compete in 3-5 competitions. While we do not compete in a specific conference, the competitions we attend allow us to compete with teams such as: University of Maryland, Christopher Newport University, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, just to name a few!

There are only Fall tryouts, which are typically held within the first week of school. It is a requirement to attend the 3 day tryout clinic. While tumbling is strongly encouraged, it is not a requirement. Dues are $50-100 per year. Depending upon each members individual participation in fundraising events, their dues may be more or less. $50 being the minimum, $100 the maximum.

We practice 3 days a week, 2 hour practices. Practices are usually held on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 9-11 PM in the Godwin gym.
