Participants are expected to follow all UREC Policies and University Policies in all Open Recreation spaces. 

Courtyards (East and West)
  • Priority is given to those with previously approved reservations; all other use is on a first come, first served basis. If you have a confirmed reservation, please check in at the Welcome Center in the front of the building (Entrance H).
  • Drop-in use is intended for JMU students, faculty, and staff. Unauthorized use or activity is strictly prohibited.
  • Alcohol, skateboards, tobacco products, glass, open flames, and pets are not permitted inside at this facility.
  • Alcohol is only permitted for ABC licensed events.
  • Use of the grill is by reservation only.
  • Please dispose of all trash before leaving the courtyard and return any equipment to its original location.
  • Additional lawn games are available for check-out at the UREC Equipment Center.
Multi-Activity Centers and Sports Forums
  • Closed-toe, non-marking athletic shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Hats are not permitted for safety reasons. Shirts must be worn at all times.
  • Please keep the floor clear. Personal belongings must be kept in cubbies or lockers.
  • Dunking is permitted. No hanging on rims/nets.
  • While full-court games are in progress, spectators or those waiting to play may not shoot at the other basket.
  • During pick-up games, a team with two straight wins must release the court for two new teams to play when others are waiting. Games should be scored by 2’s and 3’s and conclude when a team reaches 22.
  • No spitting, intentionally creating health hazards, profane language, or physical altercations.
  • Only water or sport drinks in re-sealable sports bottles are permitted.  Food and other beverages must be consumed in the Atrium.
  • No chewing gum.
Racquetball and Squash Courts
  • Please check in at the Equipment Center prior to using courts.
  • Closed-toe, non-marking athletic shoes must be worn at all times.
  • The use of protective eyewear and racquet wrist straps is strongly recommended for racquet sport players.
  • Please refrain from marking the walls with shoes and/or racquets.
  • If assistance is needed with wallyball or other equipment, please contact UREC staff.
  • Please leave the court promptly at the conclusion of your reservation time.
  • Only water or sport drinks in re-sealable sports bottles are permitted. Food and other beverages must be consumed in the Atrium.
  • No chewing gum.
Track

Track Distance: 6 laps per mile

  • Please travel in direction indicated on overhead sign.
  • Closed-toe athletic shoes must be worn at all times.
  • Please keep the floor clear. Personal belongings must be kept in lockers.
  • Slower joggers/walkers please stay to the inside and allow for passing on the outside.
  • Spectators may not stand or block lanes during regular operations.
  • Only water or sport drinks in re-sealable sports bottles are permitted. Food and other beverages must be consumed in the Atrium.
  • No chewing gum.
Disc Golf
  • This course is open to JMU students, faculty, and staff. You may be asked to present your valid JACard on the course. Unauthorized use or activity is strictly prohibited.
  • Priority is given to those with previously approved reservations; all other use is on a first come, first served basis. If you have a confirmed reservation, please check in at the UREC Gatehouse.
  • Alcohol, tobacco products, open flames, and pets are not permitted on the course.
  • Please dispose of all trash before and after you play.
  • Do not throw off a tee until the group in front of you has cleared the hole.
  • You can check out discs at UREC's University Park Gatehouse. Scorecards and pencils are located at Tee 1.
  • Restrooms, shelter and first aid are available at UREC's University Park Gatehouse.

Trails
  • Trails are open to the public from dawn to dusk.
  • Please dispose of waste properly.
  • Moving, cutting or otherwise damaging any timber, tree or other forest product is prohibited.
  • No alcohol, nicotene or cannabis products.
  • No open flames or use of matches or lighters.
  • Leashed dogs are welcome. Please pick up and dispose of all waste in proper receptacles.
  • Children under 16 must be supervised.
  • Only emergency and service vehicles are permitted on trails. No bicycles.
  • Restrooms, shelter and assistance are available at University Park and the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum during respective facility operating hours.
