General Access Policy (top)
Use of the University Recreation Center (UREC) and related programs is intended for the students, faculty, and staff of the JMU community. UREC is a controlled access facility. Authorized users with full privileges include any full-time undergraduate or graduate student and full-time employees of the JMU community. Only authorized users, guests of authorized users, and approved groups are allowed entry. Authorized users must have a JACard to both enter and exit UREC.
Wage, temporary contract employees and affliates will enjoy full individual member privileges and immediate family privileges during designated family hours only.
Students enrolled in less than seven credit hours (or graduate students with fewer than six credits) may use the facility and related programs by paying a prorated fee according to the schedule below:
- 1 - 3 credit hours - $100 user fee per semester
- 4 - 6 credit hours - $50 user fee per semester
All participants who have entered through the Welcome Center should exit through the turnstiles. False representation of identification will result in immediate confiscation of provided identification.
If you do not have your JACard, you may enter two times per semester by using a courtesy visit. To use your courtesy visit, you MUST know your PeopleSoft number. Due to safety and security issues, we will not make exceptions to this policy
Guest Policy and Fees (top)
The host is responsible for the conduct of escorted guests while in the facility and must be present at all times. All guests are expected to display conduct in adherence to all UREC policies. If any violation of UREC policy occurs, the guest will be asked to leave and no refund will be available.

Weekend fee includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
All fees will be paid by the JAC debit system or Flex.
Guests over the age of 16 may participate in any area/activity with the exception of ongoing programs. Guests 15 and under must be in the company of their sponsor at all times while in the facility.
Hosts may sponsor a maximum of two guests per I.D. This can be paid in Flex by adding money to your card on our Dart machine (located at the Welcome Center). For parties larger than two, please contact the Assistant Director of Member Services.
Family Privileges (top)
Academic Year Family hours will start on Friday at 6:00 pm and go through Sunday 6:00pm. All break hours, including summer are family hours. During these times only, immediate family are free of charge.
Immediate family for JMU faculty, staff, and students include: spouse, dependents (children, foster children, step children), siblings, parents, grandparents, and grandchildren.
Family members have the option of being registered by completing a UREC Family Membership form and presenting identification as proof of relationship to host. The family member must bring proof of relationship and must be accompanied by a JAC holding host at all times.
Proof of relationship to host: birth certificate, driver's license, or other forms of legal identification.
Registered family members may use the UREC Center free of charge during Family Hours when accompanied by the JAC holding host.
Children 15 and under must remain in the company of an adult or their host at all times while in the facility.
Children 16 and over must remain in the facility with host, but do not have to stay in the same programming area. They may participate in any area except for continuing programs (i.e. intramurals, group fitness classes).
Children must be at least 14 years of age to use the areas that are designated Fitness 1 & 2. Orientations are required for 14-16 year olds. These sessions are geared specifically towards adolescents and fitness training. Orientations will be offered during Family Hours.
Dependent Privileges (top)
Dependent UREC cards are offered during special break hours, such as Summer, Winter, and Spring Breaks; and give dependents access to the UREC Center without the company of their host. Dependent URAC cards are offered to children of full time students, faculty, and staff who are between the ages of 18-23 and still a dependent of their parents.
Spouse Privileges (top)
Spouses of full time students, faculty, and staff may purchase a University Recreation Activity Card (URAC) for a processing fee of $5.00, paid to Campus Card Services. This picture I.D. gives spouses membership privileges which allow the individual access to the UREC Center without the company of their host.
Application for spouse URAC cards may be obtained at the UREC Welcome Center.
Obtaining a URAC Card (top)
A URAC application must be competed and returned to UREC for approval. Once application has been approved applicant will take paperwork to Campus Card Services for the Spouse/Dependent to obtain their URAC (Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm). A $5.00 processing fee is paid at this time to campus Card Services.
For spouse URAC, you must show proof of marriage: mutual checking account, marriage certificate, utility bills, etc. (a document that verifies marriage).
For dependent URAC, you must show proof verifying legal dependency.
URAC Renewals (top)
Host of spouse URAC card holders must notify the Coordinator of Member Services by the first of June each year to renew their URAC card. Dependents must renew each break period.
