Madison Dance Club

The purpose of Madison Dance Club is to provide an opportunity for students to express themselves through various forms of dance, including but not limited to jazz, hip-hop, street and lyrical.

Madison Dance performs all around campus for different events, and we also perform for great causes in Harrisonburg. In the 2008-09 academic year, we performed at:

  • Sorority sponsored late night breakfasts,
  • 4 different charity events,
  • pep rally,
  • MS sleep out,
  • a cell phone company grand opening,
  • JMU’s Got Talent,
  • performances at retirement home talent shows,
  • a performance for the Phi Sigma Pi event,
  • MS walk in Duke Hall,
  • and the ring premiere in Festival.

Not only do we do these performances to help out other organizations we have an end of the semester show each semester; we have a pretty full schedule. All the girls are very devoted and love being involved with the club.

Season
Our "season" begins the second week of each semester and ends before finals week, unless there is a conflict with when our end of the semester performance, thus causing us to push the end date back to the week of finals.

Tryouts
Try-outs occur once every semester; one try-out for Fall and one try-out for Spring. Try-outs are held in the UREC MAC Room around the second week of school from 9 AM until 5 PM.

Membership Requirements
Student in good standing with the University (2.0 cumulative GPA) are eligible for membership after attending auditions and being offered membership. As a member, one is required to attend organization practices and meetings regularly, pay dues, and actively support organization projects.

Dues
Currently, each member pays $30 per semester, but it may be subject to change.

Practice Schedule
Each section (jazz, lyrical, hip-hop and street) practices once a week for 2 hours.

  • Lyrical typically practices Sunday nights from 9PM until 11PM
  • Hip-hop typically practices Monday nights from 9PM until 11PM
  • Street typically practices Tuesday nights from 9PM until 11PM
  • Jazz typically practices Wednesday nights from 9PM until 11PM
