Season
In the fall we mainly focus on new archer development and general practice. Spring semester is our 'season'. Starting with several smaller shoots in January/February. The largest indoor shoot is the Indoor Nationals, which takes place in March during JMU's Spring Break. We host the tournament at JMU, which draws in over a hundred archers from all over the east. In the spring we move outside and have 3 main shoots, The Adam Wheatcroft Memorial, Arizona Cup (Optional), and Eastern Regionals (ERIACS). After JMU lets out, we have our USIACS, Collegiate Nationals. The location changes each year, as well as the date. However we usually come back to school in May for several days to train then travel out to the tournament.
Conference
There is no set 'conference' that we are part of, however, we are in the East region for All-East and other tournament considerations. We share the same region with other colleges like Penn State and Columbia University.
Tryouts
No. Try-Outs to make the 'traveling team' are based on performances during practice and inter-club leagues.
Membership Requirements
A good attitude and willingness to learn. Even if you have never touched a bow before, we have had members make All-American and New Archer of the Year within their first year or two of picking up a bow. No equipment is needed for beginners. We proved beginning bows, arrows, and equipment. If you wish to upgrade to a move competitive set-up, that is done with personal funds.
Dues
These vary from year-to-year. However, dues are usually are around 35$ for the semester, or 60$ for the year. This includes basic equipment, practice time, some tournaments, and coaching. Advanced equipment, food, and some lodging/transportation is additional, and changes on a yearly basis. Every year we travel to Arizona for a tournament that is entirely self-funded. The additional costs do change year to year depending on the tournament schedule.
Practice Schedule
In early fall, practice is from 6:00pm-8:00 in the basement of Goodwin. Sun/Tues/Thurs Later fall and early spring practice in 6:00pm-8:00 in Goodwin Sun-Thursday. In spring practice takes place on Hillside field from 3:00-5:30pm. Sun-Thursday.
