Lifeguarding Certifications

Please arrive early for any of the Red Cross Courses that you register for (10 to 15 minutes is recommended). If you arrive later than the scheduled start time, you will not be permitted entry into the class and will not be eligible to receive a refund.

Lifeguarding Pre - Requisite Program (Step 1)
To be eligible for the Lifeguard class, participants must first take the Pre-Requisite Test. If participants are able to pass the Pre-Requisite they will then be able to register for the lifeguarding class on a first come first serve basis. You must be on time to participate in the Pre-Requisite test.

The Pre-Requisite test includes a continuous 300 yard swim; participants must be proficient in front crawl (using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick) and breaststroke (using a pull, breath, kick and glide sequence). The participants also will need to be able to tread water for 2 minutes without support and without stopping, using only their legs. Lastly, they will retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the pool and swim 20 yards with the brick, without the use of goggles. The 300 yard swim is not timed, but it must be continuous; the brick retrieval and swim must be done within 1 minute 40 seconds.
