National Campus Championship Series

What is the National Campus Championship Series?

The National Campus Championship Series (also called extramural events) is multiple NIRSA-sponsored tournaments between intramural champions from various universities in regions competing for a national bid. JMU is included in Region II. These tournaments usually consist of champions from the highest level in their university beginning in pool play competition and finishing in a single elimination tournament. The winners receive $1,000 and an automatic bid to nationals which are usually located in Florida.

How can I get involved?

The first step in getting involved with extramural tournaments is competing in the top division in a specific sport (usually division 3). The winner of the top division will receive the first opportunity to travel to the extramural tournament with financial support from UREC.  In the instance that the team denies the privilege of participating in these tournaments, the second place team will receive the option.

The team that travels to an extramural tournament must possess GREAT sportsmanship or they will be denied permission by the Coordinator of Intramural Sports.  “Sportsmanship is the only way to play."

If you have any questions about extramural sports, please contact Aaron Combs, Coordinator of Intramural Sports & Special Events at combsad@jmu.edu or 568-8711.
