Intro to White Water Kayaking
We offer two levels of Kayaking trips depending on your experience. Both programs include an evening pool session to go over basic skills and prepare you for the weekend river excursion. This class is designed for the participant who is new to the sport of white water kayaking.  We will introduce you to all the gear, find the correct boat for you, and make sure you gain experience handling and exiting the boat before we go to the river.  We will be paddling part of the Shenandoah Rover  that offers a few easy obstacles and small rapids. We will provide all equipment, instruction, and transportation.

Canoeing on the Shenandoah River
Enjoy being out on the water? Join us on a canoe adventure where you will forget all about the pace of campus life and spend time watching Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, and Osprey in their natural habitat. Our multiday trips involve packing all the equipment and enough food to sustain us while we camp along our way. Past multiday canoeing trips have been on the Rappahannock and the Potomac Rivers. These trips require a pre trip meeting to make sure you are prepared with necessary clothing and gear.  Our single day trip usually are spent on the nearby South Fork of the Shenandoah between the towns of Shenandoah and Luray.  We make it a point to stop along the way for a riverside picnic lunch.

Kayak 101
This is a great way to learn about the sport of whitewater kayaking during the colder months.  We will  bring the boats down to the pool where you have the opportunity to learn about boat fit, wet exits, and a variety of paddle strokes.  We will sometimes end the session with a came of kayak basketball or polo.

Not offered in the fall.

eskimo roll

Kayak Eskimo Roll
Tired of having to wet exit every time you flip in a kayak?  This class will go over the fundamentals for learning how to Eskimo Roll in a Kayak.  You may bring your own boat or use one of ours.  We will spend about 30 minutes to view a film illustrating the basic principals then use our pool to begin to learn the mechanics.  Depending on how comfortable you are in a kayak you may need to attend several practices sessions before experiencing success – but our leaders will be there to help you along the way!

Not offered in the fall.
