Adventure encompasses activities and instruction both within the UREC walls and outside in the surrounding forests and rivers. The climbing wall is a place to learn the basics of rock climbing or to get tips on advanced techniques. Similarly there are frequent kayak sessions in the pool where paddle strokes, wet exits, and Eskimo rolls can be practiced. UREC also houses an adventure equipment inventory available for students to rent at a very low cost. The adventure trip program reaches far beyond the wall of UREC to give students an opportunity to participate on a variety of student led outdoor trips. Some examples of trips include caving, rock climbing, canoeing, and backpacking. Another extension of the adventure program is the TEAM program. The TEAM program is a custom team building program available to JMU groups who want to improve their communication, leadership, or just get to know each other better. Types of programs include low ropes initiatives, survival simulations, and adventure quests.
