Yogis Take a Hike
We have invited one of the UREC Yogis for this modified hiking program.  Run as a Friday afternoon program, Yogi’s Hike allows you to regain balance and release stress that will help kick off a relaxing weekend.  We will hike to a scenic spot in the national forest where you will be guided through a series of sun salutation and downward dogs after which we will hike out and along a stream through an amazing stand of Rhododendron  and return to UREC.

Are you ready to get away from campus for a few hours?  Join us as we hike our favorite local hikes and scenic places.  Make sure to wear sneakers or hiking shoes and bring layers for weather changes and plenty of water (1-2 liters) to stay hydrated.  We’ll make sure you are well fed with one of our tasty trail meals and snacks.

Backpacking George Washington National Forest
For those of you who need to step further into the wild we offer 2-3 day backpacking trips.  These trips are designed for the first time or experienced backpacker. We will provide you with your backpack, tent, sleeping bag, and cooking equipment.  Our trip leaders enjoy the art of backcountry cooking and will show you how to make delicious meals on a backpacking stove.  All you need to provide is sturdy shoes, and lightweight layers clothing options for the always changing weather. These trips require a pre trip meeting to make sure you are prepared with necessary clothing and gear.

Hiking Seneca Rocks or Spruce Knob WV

Backcountry Cooking 101
Are you tired of Ramen noodles and cold bagels on backpacking trips?  This program will show you how to prepare delicious, low cost meals on a one burner backpacking type stove.  Past dishes include calzones, sweet and sour stir fry, fajitas, and Curried chicken and rice.  What even better – you get to eat what you make and we provide all the food, stoves and instruction!

Trail Building
If you enjoy hiking and mountain biking and are looking for an opportunity to give back by joining us in our trail building efforts.  We will be joining local community groups as we work to build and maintain local hiking and biking trails. Plan to spend 3 hours on the trail crew doing physical work after which we will feed you an amazing lunch before heading back to campus.

Family Weekend Hiking
We head west to the border of West Virginia for a scenic hike to Hidden Rocks.  This moderate two-mile round trip trail follows a mountain stream through a beautiful stand of rhododendron.    Brunch is  provided, so all you need to bring are your day pack, water, hiking shoes (no sandals) and comfortable clothes.  Program meets at the UREC loading dock.  We will be back before the football game kickoff.  Registration limited to 20 participants. Family Weekend Yoga Hike
Immerse yourself in the serenity of a mountain lake while practicing yoga.  Never tried yoga?  That’s O.K. we will be teaching the basics of the sun salutation and a few other poses.  This trip will be rewarding for both the novice and experienced yogis.
