Parking: Please park off Driver Drive Road (Located near the JMU Arboretum) in Convo G or Lot D8.  No parking pass in necessary.
Please be sure not to park in Convo A, B, C, D, and E, you will be ticketed due to a Women's Basketball Game.

Registering for Breakout Classes:

Prior to selecting classes, please print off the Breakout Class Descriptions. Choose one class per for each of the six Breakout sessions.

  1.  Go to https://www.xpiron.com/schedule/urec (Please note: If you are using a MAC computer, go to www.jmu.edu/recreation and click on Group Fitness Registration under the "Quick Links" section on the left)
  2. Click on the ‘First time user ?’ link.
  3. In ‘Member Number’ type in the phone number without spaces that you provided on your Registration form.  Most participants provided their cell phone number.  If you do not remember your number please e-mail fitexpo@jmu.edu.
  4. Click ‘OK.’
  5. Fill out *Required Information.
  6. Click ‘OK.’
  7. Click on EXPO CLASSES tab (The last tab on the left).
  8. Click on ‘EXPO CALENDAR’ right below the tabs.
  9. Click on ‘EXPO CALENDAR: (Date) – A Calendar will come up.  Click on ‘Feb’ and ‘9’. You will only be able to register for orange classes.  (The purple classes are the JMU regular group fitness schedule.)
  10. A list of classes will appear with the location of the room. Only choose one class per breakout session. 

To Select Classes:

  1. Find the class you want to take.  If the class is available it will say ‘available.’ If it is full it will say ‘full’ and you will not be able to register.
  2. Click on the Blue Magnifying Glass Icon for the class you want to take.
  3. Click ‘Make Booking.’
  4. On the pop up window click ‘OK.’
  5. At this time you should receive an e-mail confirmation for the class you registered for. If you do not receive an email confirmation, you have not completed the booking successfully.
  6. Repeat steps  1-5 to register for the other breakout sessions.
  7. Be sure to register for Saturday and Sunday.  To get to Sunday classes click on ‘EXPO CALENDAR’ right below the tabs.
  8. Click on ‘EXPO CALENDER: (Date) – A Calendar will come up.  Click on ‘Feb’ and ‘10’

To Cancel Classes:

  1. Click on the Blue Magnifying Glass Icon of the class you would like to cancel.
  2. Click ‘Remove.’
  3. A pop up screen will appear.  Click ‘Remove.’
  4. At this time you should receive an e-mail confirmation cancelling the class

About the University Recreation Center
In the fall of 1996, James Madison University opened its doors to a 140,700 square foot University Recreation Center (UREC). All recreational programs are centralized in this multi-level complex to offer the JMU community a comprehensive menu of recreational activities and educational opportunities. UREC employs 19 professional staff members and 8 Graduate Assistants all of which are committed to fulfilling the UREC mission-- to promote and advance healthy lifestyles through participation opportunities, educational experiences and supportive services. Our qualified staff is committed to excellence and attentive to the developmental needs of our participants.

Early bird registration forms and payment must be postmarked by November 15, 2007.

Note: The last day to request a refund is February 1, 2008 at noon. Also, if registration is paid online and a refund is request, the $2.50 surcharge will not be refunded.

Presenter Application
We are looking for creative class formats and innovative approaches to Group Fitness and Personal Training.  To apply to be a presenter click here and download form.  Presenter applications must be postmarked or sent by November 15, 2007.  Will notify presenter the week of December 3.

JaneVaganek

Master Presenter Jane Vaganek
Jane Vaganek, MS is a Senior Trainer and the Collegiate Liaison for YogaFit® Training Systems Worldwide.  She is the Assistant Director of Yates Field House overseeing Fitness and Wellness at Georgetown University in Washington DC.   Jane is certified by ACSM, ACE, AFAA and has achieved Yoga Alliance E-RYT (1,000 hours) status.  She also begins her term as a Lululemon Community Ambassador for the DC area in February of 2008.  Some of Jane’s presenting experience includes ECA World Convention, World Spinning and Sports Convention, DCAC, TSI Train Your Head, the NIRSA conventions, and the Big 10 Fitness Conference.  Her approach to fitness and yoga is one of lightness and fun!  Bodies were made to move – and strength is found from within!

HollyWade Master Presenter Holly Wade
Holly Wade, MEd (Athletic Administration) is the Coordinator of Group Fitness & Wellness at JMU.  She started her fitness career at the University of Nebraska where she was a Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer.  She has 14 years of experience and has taught almost every type of class in that time.  Her approach to fitness is that it should be fun and enjoyable!  She applies the mind-body connection to her classes.  Holly has certifications through AFAA, STOTT Pilates, YogaFit Level 1 & 2, and PiYo and is also an AFAA Examiner.  Her goals are to complete her 200 hour RYT and to become a Reiki Master.
  Master Presenter Mitch Nettesheim
Mitch Nettesheim, Exercise Science, MEd, Certified Personal Trainer, NASM, Health and Fitness Instructor, ACSM. He is currently the Associate Director for Operations and Facilities at Purdue University.

Mitch is a lifetime fitness enthusiast that has had the fortune of working in the industry for 25 years. For the past seven years Mitch has been seizing any opportunity to train and educate individuals and colleagues in the application of functional movement patterns. Mitch is pragmatist who desires to get the most out of every situation in life. As an active father of three, he has made it his business to find the most effective and efficient workouts possible. His conviction is that functional fitness is the best innovation the fitness industry has known.
JodieEvanson

Master Presenter Jody Evanson
B.Sc. Exercise Science
Recipient of Can-Fit-Pro’s Most Valuable PRO Trainer for 2007,  Jody is a veteran international presenter and educator with over 15 years experience in the industry. She is a PRO Trainer for Can-Fit-Pro (PTS, FIS, NWS) and a Premier Instructor and Personal Trainer for Fit Quest Consulting and Only Women’s Fitness in Lethbridge, AB, Canada. A proud mother of five children, she shares her boundless energy and enthusiasm in each of her sessions. She is certified by Can-Fit-Pro, ACE, AFLCA, Pilates Coach, Keiser Cycling, Yoga Fit & Jump Rope Institute.


Demo Teams

  • Each school may present one demo rountine
  • Demo routines are limited to five minutes and include following class styles: Yoga, Pilates, Step, Sculpting, Kickboxing, and  Funk
  • Demo teams’s sound source must be in CD-audio format
  • Demo application are due by Nov. 15, 2007

-Take I81 North to Exit 245
-Turn right onto Port Republic Road
-Turn left at the first light onto Forest Hills Road
-Turn left onto University Blvd.
-Drive 1/4 mile and the Convocation Center will be on the left

From Interstate 81 South:
-Take I81 South to Exit 245
-Turn left onto Port Republic Road
-Take a left at the second light on to Forest Hills Road

From Route 33 West:
-Take Rt 33 West into Harrisonburg passing the Valley Mall
