OFFENSE:  Trespass of Real Property - Occupied Residence
LOCATION:   300 Block of Pheasant Run Circle, City of Harrisonburg

TIME:   Early morning hours of Saturday, March 29, 2008, at approximately 06:10 AM.

SUSPECT:   Unknown Suspect or Suspects

In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 the University Police are giving notice of a incident reported to the Harrisonburg Police Department  involving an alleged incident of Trespass into an Occupied Residence.

The Harrisonburg Police Department is investigating a complaint that occurred Saturday morning, March 29, 2008 in the 300 block of Pheasant Run Circle off of South Main Street in Harrisonburg.  The complainant advises that she had been on campus working in a computer lab throughout the night and returned to her apartment in Pheasant Run at approximately 6:10 AM on the morning of March 29, 2008.  When she entered her apartment she left the front door unsecured, went up to the second floor of the residence and to the shower.  After just a few minutes she exited the shower to find the bathroom door, which had previously been shut, standing open and heard what she believed to be someone running down the apartment steps and out the front door.  Complainant contacted HPD who responded and searched the residence and surrounding area.  No other items were apparently tampered with or removed from the residence.

Suspect or suspects in this incident remain unidentified.

The case is still being actively investigated by law enforcement.  Members of the University community are urged to be vigilant and report any unusual circumstances and/or suspicious activities/persons.

JMU and the City of Harrisonburg want to encourage everyone in the Community to exercise good crime prevention strategies all the time and to make these good daily habits.   Close and Lock all exterior doors and windows at night and anytime the area is left unattended whether it be for 5 minutes or 5 days to go to class, go to the store, visit a friend or leave town for the holiday.  Be particularly cautious about leaving ground level doors and windows unsecured and even individual room and office doors in complexes where multiple occupants have access to common areas inside the perimeter of the residential, administrative and academic facilities.   This warning also extends to vehicles.  Car windows should be up, car doors should be locked and valuable contents should be secured out of sight.
