OFFENSE: Weapons Law Violations
LOCATION: 1300 Block of Devon Lane, City of Harrisonburg

TIME:   Early morning hours of Sunday, February 24, 2008, at approximately 01:50 AM.

SUSPECT:   Black Male, in his 20’s, 6’ tall, wearing white T-shirt, blue jeans, light colored hat.

In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 the University Police are giving notice of a incident reported to the Harrisonburg Police Department over the weekend involving the discharge of a firearm in the City of Harrisonburg.

The Harrisonburg Police Department advised that they received a complaint of shots fired on Sunday, February 24, 2008. The incident took place around 01:50 AM in the 1300 block of Devon Lane. Witnesses advised Harrisonburg officers that subject was seen with a dark colored handgun which he fire several times into the air. Witnesses also indicated that this incident may be related to an altercation that occurred at a residence on that block just prior the shots being fired.

Suspect in this incident was described as follows:

Black Male in his 20’s, 6’ tall, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a light colored hat.

Two vehicles were also seen leaving the area shortly before law enforcement arrived on scene.

1st was described as a beige Chevy Blazer with aftermarket wheels and dark tinted windows.

2nd was described as a dark colored Honda Accord with dark tinted windows.

The case is still being actively investigated by law enforcement. Members of the University community are urged to be vigilant and report any unusual circumstances and/or suspicious activities/persons.  Until this investigation has been concluded it can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the community.  It is the duty of the institution to warn of possible "dangerous conditions" on its property; an "affirmative duty" exists to warn of possible peril at the hands of some third party.
