AM 1610
The James Madison University Radio Broadcast System is a local
public information radio station that broadcasts 24 hours a day at 1610 on
the AM dial [WN-YU7-23]. The system serves the JMU Campus Community and
local Harrisonburg area with an approx. range of 3 - 7 miles from the on
campus transmitter.
The JMU Radio Broadcast System provides up to date and timely
information regarding special events on campus, parking instructions,
school closings, inclement weather conditions, emergencies and other
campus services such as Admissions and Visitors Center.
If you are travelling to JMU for a special event or a visit please
tune to AM 1610 as you approach the Harrisonburg area for up to the minute
instructions on the best way to get to your destination in a safe and
timely manner.
If you are a student or employee of the University, please tune
to AM 1610 during times of inclement weather to determine road conditions
and for SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION. Broadcast messages are updated
immediately after any decision by the University Administration that
affects class cancellations or other University Operations. Please DO NOT
tie up the University's telephone lines by calling the campus operator or
the University Police for this information. New telephone numbers have been
established to give you up-to-date information on university closings or late
openings during inclement weather conditions. The On-Campus phone number is 3570,
and the Off-Campus number is (540) 433-5300. Announcements are also made
periodically on local commercial and public TV and RADIO stations.
Messages are posted and updated on the AM 1610 Radio Broadcast
System by Mr. Fred Hilton (hiltonfd@jmu.edu) Director of Media Relations
and by the Department of Public Safety during special events and other critical incidents.
