Subject: Provost/Senior Vice President Search Update
From: Mark Warner
Chair, Provost Search Committee
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Provost Search Committee, I would like to update you on our search process and progress. As a result of our nationwide search, the candidate pool was large and very competitive.
I first want to thank all of you who provided input on the front end of the process. Your thoughts were very helpful as we screened applicants and narrowed the pool.
In June our committee conducted a round of video interviews, and from that group we have chosen three finalists. The finalists will be on campus during the first two weeks of September.
We are very excited to announce our finalists:

Dear members of the JMU community,
As chair of the search committee for our Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, I want to provide you with an update on the search and solicit your input. Your input is very important to our committee as we begin the search for this critical position on our campus. Directions for providing input are listed below.
We have structured the search process so all members of the university community may be involved. We hope that this website serves as a valuable tool for you to keep abreast of search activities and progress.
During this month, the search committee is soliciting input from the campus community to help determine the desired attributes of our next Provost. The Provost position announcement has been posted, and the committee will begin reviewing applications no later than June 1st. In the summer months we will be screening the applications and deciding upon a short list of candidates. The committee will conduct phone interviews with this group, and then we will select finalists for on-campus interviews.
The names of the finalists will be made public and copies of their CV’s will be shared with the campus community. Each finalist will be invited to campus in early September. On-campus interviews will include a public forum with each candidate, to which all members of the campus community will be invited. Our hope is to identify a new provost by early October.
Your input is very important to the committee as we conduct our search. As mentioned in a previous letter, we are using two vehicles to collect your thoughts: an electronic survey and public forums. The following questions are being asked, both in the survey and at the forums:
You may access the survey online throughout the entire month of April. Please click here for the link.
We are excited about the forums. Our first was held on April 12. The input we gained will be very helpful. The details for our next forum follow:
Date: Monday, April 23
Time: 3:00pm-4:30pm
Location: Taylor Hall room 404
We look forward to hearing from you, whether via the survey or in person at the forums.
Thank you for your interest and involvement.
Sincerely,
Mark J. Warner
