The Presidential Search Committee appointed by the Rector of the Visitors of James Madison University met on Thursday, June 2, 2011 in the Festival Conference and Student Center Board Room on the campus of James Madison University. Mr. Joseph Damico, Chair, called the meeting to order at 2:03 pm.
Dr. Brian Charette, Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, Training and Performance and Ms. Yohna Chambers, Director of Human Resources presented a training session on foundational interviewing skills for the presidential search committee.
There being no further business, on motion of Mr. Rivers, seconded by Mrs. Strickler, the Committee voted to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 2:54 pm.
The Presidential Search Committee appointed by the Rector of the Visitors of James Madison University reconvened on Thursday, June 2, 2011 in the Festival Conference and Student Center Board Room on the campus of James Madison University. Mr. Joseph Damico, Chair, called the meeting to order at 3:07 pm.
On motion of Mr. Rivers, seconded by Mrs. Strickler, the minutes of the March 31, 2011 meeting were approved.
Dr. Brian Charette, Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, Training and Performance and Ms. Yohna Chambers, Director of Human Resources presented an advanced session on foundational interviewing skills for the presidential search committee.
Chairman Damico presented an update on the progress of the presidential search and informed the committee that the planning stage had been completed and the recruiting stage was fully underway. Mr. Damico then brought attention to the Presidential Job Description that had been published and is now available on the Presidential Search website: (www.jmu.edu/presidentsearch) Finally, he shared that advertising for the position had commenced, and that the presidential position advertisement had been posted in each of the following media outlets: The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed, Diverse Magazine, Hispanic Outlook, and Women in Higher Education.
Chairman Damico then called for the board to move into Closed Session. Mrs. Strickler made the following motion:
“I move to go into closed session pursuant to Section 2.2-3711.A.1 to discuss personnel matters; more specifically, to discuss matters necessarily involving identification of potential applicants or candidates for presidency of the university.”
The motion was seconded by Mr. Rivers and the Committee moved into closed session.
Following the closed session, Mr. Damico then stated the following:
During the closed session, the Committee discussed only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements and only those types of matters identified in the motion for the closed session.
