Message from Dr. Rose to President's Council Members

Dear members of the JMU President's Council,

This afternoon I announced that I will end my service at James Madison University effective June 2012. By my side at the announcement were first lady Judith Rose and my good friend and Board of Visitors Rector Jim Hartman. As I delivered my prepared remarks the words did not come as easily as remarks typically do for me. JMU is my life’s work and, while I am excited for the next phase of my life, ending my service for this great institution hit me harder than I anticipated.

Change has been one of only two constants at JMU during my 35-year career here. The other is wonderful people. Looking back on all we have accomplished over the decades to transform Madison College into James Madison University, certainly new programs and beautiful facilities are evident. But all were created and built by devoted people, people including all of you on the President’s Council. Thank you.
