Yi Edward Yang is Professor of Political Science at James Madison University (JMU). A native of mainland China, Dr. Yang received his bachelor’s degree in diplomacy and international affairs from China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) in Beijing and his Ph.D. in political science from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Yang's primary research interests involve foreign policy decision-making, political psychology, Chinese foreign policy, and U.S.-China relations. His work has appeared in several edited volumes and peer-reviewed scholarly journals including the Journal of Conflict Resolution, International Studies Quarterly, Political Psychology, Foreign Policy Analysis, Political Research Quarterly, the Journal of Contemporary China, the Journal of Chinese Political Science, and the Chinese Journal of International Politics. He is a co-editor of Challenges to China's Economic Statecraft: A Global Perspective (Lexington Books, 2019). Dr. Yang is an editorial board member for Asian Survey, a leading academic journal on Asian Studies. In 2016-2018, he served as president of the Association of Chinese Political Studies (ACPS), the largest U.S.-based organization dedicated to academic and professional activities relating to Chinese politics. 

In addition to his academic activities in the United States, Dr. Yang travels to China frequently for research and teaching projects. He also works as an independent consultant providing corporations, government agencies, and research institutes with the information they need to understand and negotiate China’s unique political and business environment.
