Application Process

This graduate certificate program welcomes applications from:

  • current undergraduate students who will complete their bachelor’s degrees (or equivalent) by May 2018
  • applicants who have completed either a bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year U.S. institution or an equivalent course of study conducted abroad
  • graduate students currently seeking a degree at JMU

Current JMU graduate students must submit a form requesting admission signed by their graduate advisor. This form is available from Dr. Kerry Crawford; please contact her via e-mail (crawfokf@jmu.edu) or telephone (540-568-6952). In addition, interested students must submit a one- to two-page personal statement (discussing your background and your motivations for studying international NGOs). This statement should be submitted via e-mail to Dr. Crawford (at crawfokf@jmu.edu).

All other applicants must apply for admission via the online application process run by Outreach Programs at JMU. There is a $45 application fee and students who did not get a bachelor's degree at JMU must submit academic transcripts for all their college-level studies.

Application instructions and forms are available online at: http://www.jmu.edu/outreach/apply.shtml and click on the link related to applying to certificate programs.

In addition to the online application and provision of transcripts, please submit a one- to two-page personal statement (discussing your background and your motivations for studying international NGOs) via e-mail to 2 people: Kerry Crawford (crawfokf@jmu.edu) and Theresa Jennings (jennintl@jmu.edu). If you have any difficulties with your application or registration, please e-mail outreach@jmu.edu, or call 540-568-2990.

The INGO program will begin accepting applications for the summer 2018 program on August 1, 2017. The early decision application deadline is October 13, 2017. After that date, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, space permitting.
