John Scherpereel received his B.A. in Government/ International Studies and Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At JMU, he teaches courses on global and comparative politics, central and east European politics, and European integration.
Dr. Scherpereel’s research focuses on institutional change in the European Union (EU) and its new and aspiring member states. One current project examines the differential impacts of EU regional policy in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, while another seeks to identify the conditions under which international organizations agree to take in new members.
Dr. Scherpereel’s work has or will soon be published in the Journal of European Integration, Administration and Society, Governance, and edited volumes published by Oxford University Press and European Press Academic Publishing.
