Research Assignments for Summer 2006

In these projects, students create a research design to build an answer to a causal research question of their own choosing. While people have considerable freedom in choosing their research questions, the project must meet 4 conditions:

bullet

The research question must have relevance for public affairs.

bullet

The project must involve the creation of a multivariate causal model. Specifically, each project must include a minimum of seven independent variables.

bullet

The causal model must be examined empirically at the individual unit of analysis. In other words, the hypotheses must deal with individual people: for example, the more education one has, the more likely one is to vote.

bullet

The causal model must be investigated using one of the following data sets available in the MicroCase data archive: the 2004 General Social Survey (of the United States), the 2004 National Election Study (of the United States), or the 2002 World Values Survey (of over 50 countries around the world).
