ALUMNI BOARD -- Call for Nominations 2018

If you or someone you know would like to help lead the next phase of alumni-alumni and alumni-student programming in our department, please consider nominating someone for a post on the Alumni Board. The JMU Political Science Department Alumni Board seeks nominations for board members to serve a three-year term beginning July 1, 2017.  The board consists of 15 alums, 6 faculty members, and 1 student dedicated to facilitating new and existing relationships among the department’s students, faculty and alumni.  Since 2011, the board has given its time and talents to the departmental community through educational and career workshops, fundraising initiatives, and social events.

For more information about board membership, go to To see a list of the current board members, go to

If you would like to nominate an individual (including yourself), please provide a current resume and a one-page nomination/statement of interest by COB on Thursday, March 15, 2018, to: Tom Culligan at thomas.culligan@brimleygroup.comThe board has two openings for this recruitment cycle and then will additional seats come open in the 2019 recruitment cycle.

The departmental Alumni Board was formed in fall 2011. Since then, Alumni Board members have spearheaded the expansion of existing alumni programming in the Harrisonburg, Richmond, and Washington, DC areas. Beyond expanding opportunities for departmental alumni to interact with one another via speaker series and networking events, they have also increased ties between alumni and current students.  Participation in department’s annual summer programming on “Living & Working in DC” has grown steadily over the past few years. Alumni also bring their expertise to campus each semester via classroom talks, workshops, networking panels, and mock interviews.

Beyond the issue of the Alumni Board itself, please know that your participation in alumni programming is valued by our faculty because it helps our students and our alumni.  If you would like to update your contact information and/or express a willingness to mentor young alumni and current students, please contact our department by filling out the short survey at:

If you've not done so already, please mark your calendar for Wednesday, May 16, 2018 when the annual JMU on the Hill reception will take place in Washington, DC. If you live in the area, please plan to join us at the Library of Congress.

Warm regards,

Jon Keller
Professor of Political Science & Department Chair
