About the JMU Department of Political Science

The department offers undergraduate majors in political science, public policy & administration, and international affairs. We also offer minors in political science and in public policy & administration and (with the School of Communication Studies) political communication.

At the graduate level, we offer a Master of Public Administration degree, an M.A. degree in political science with a concentration in European Union Policy Studies, and a graduate certificate program in international NGO management.

The Political Science, International Affairs, and Public Policy and Administration majors are available to any student in good standing at the university. To declare one of these majors, please come to the department office in Miller 2120 and fill out a Declaration of Major form.

Students interested in becoming civics and social studies teachers should consider combining the political science major with the Interdisciplinary Social Science (ISS) minor. For a broader listing of interdisciplinary minors at JMU, visit the Cross-Disciplinary Studies website.
