Class of 2015

IDLS major, Elementary minor

Newport News, VA

I recently graduated from JMU in December 2015 with my Undergraduate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies as well as a Minor in Elementary Education. I plan to begin pursuing my Master's in the Arts of Teaching this Summer 2016. I have volunteered in various classrooms and programs during my time at JMU, however my passion lies with my job here at the John C. Wells Planetarium. I have been working at the Planetarium for the past four years, giving star talks to the public as well as class field trips from local schools and organizations. I have also participated in STEM programs, am a Space Explorers Camp counselor during summers, help out at star parties given on campus, and have also worked an Expanding Your Horizons workshop that encouraged young girls to pursue careers in STEM fields. Before working at the Planetarium, I knew close to nothing about Astronomy. After working only a couple of shows, however, I had become fascinated with the Night-time Sky. I learned so much from the Planetarium, and one of the best parts of my job is being able to share those moments of awe and wonder with my audience. My dream is to continue working for Planetariums as a career, combining my background in Education with my passion for the stars and the night-time sky.

Fun Facts: I have been skydiving, own a motorcycle license, and my favorite star is Mizar, located in the handle of the Big Dipper.
