JMU’s first Space Camp!
July 15-19, 2013
9am-4pm
$125/person
James Madison University's Outreach & Engagement and the Department of Physics & Astronomy are excited to announce a week-long summer space camp, open to all middle-school age students! The camp will be led, by the director of the John C. Wells Planetarium, Shanil Virani.
We will use JMU's facilities like the the John C. Wells Planetarium, which is a $1.5 Million state-of-the-art hybrid facility. Camp goers will also get to experience JMU's Science on the Sphere- a sphere-shaped, visualization tool that was developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Funding and resources will be provided by NASA.
We seek to inspire and excite the next generation of scientists and engineers! This exciting camp will demonstrate to students that science is constantly changing, constantly uncovering new clues about why our Universe is the way it is, and not some other way. We will ask questions and then use the scientific method to try to answer them! We will investigate the size and scale of our solar system, learn more about the robotic exploration of it, and learn more about our own Planet Earth and our fragile environment! Special summer camp visitors include WHSV - TV 3's Aubrey Urbanowicz WHSV and perhaps even a NASA astronaut!
