At JMU, closed planetarium to flicker back to life in '08

Sept. 5, 2007
WRIC News 8, Richmond, Va.
HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) - A planetarium at James Madison University is set to flicker back to life next year.

The John C. Wells Planetarium in Miller Hall opened in 1974. For the next three decades, thousands flocked to the 65-seat planetarium.

In 2005, it was closed when officials began to renovate Miller Hall. And the planetarium's 30-year-old projector was causing stars to disappear or dim.

The projector has received a few new digital upgrades thanks to the school's physics and astronomy department. And officials plan to reopen the facility to the public by mid-2008.
