To qualify as a Thomas scholar, the recipient must be a junior or senior who has demonstrated financial need and “intends to enter seminary or divinity school upon graduation.”
The Department of Philosophy and Religion at James Madison University has the responsibility of selecting recipients of these awards. One application serves to apply for both awards, for those who are eligible for both.
- Complete a standardized application form available from the JMU Philosophy and Religion Department
- Include names of 2 references, at least one of whom, is (preferably) connected with JMU or located in the Harrisonburg area
- Compose an essay of 300 words or less on “What kind of contribution to humanity I would like to make with my life.” If you intend to enter seminary or divinity school, be sure to make that clear.
