 PBS Teacherline

PBS TeacherLine is the premier professional development resource offering online courses for PreK-12 teachers. Trained, certified facilitators lead courses in Reading/Language Arts, Science, Mathematics, STEM, Instructional Technology, and Instructional Strategies. And online learning is fun, flexible, and collaborative!

JMU credit earned through PBS Teacherline courses may count toward selected JMU degree programs. Credit for each course would be considered on a case by case basis by the program involved. The cost of graduate tuition for this program for 2010-2011 is $90/credit hour.

To register for these courses and earn graduate credit through JMU:

  1. Register to participate in the course online through PBS Teacherline (http://pbs.org/teacherline).
  2. Complete a JMU Non-degree Seeking Student Application (www.jmu.edu/outreach; click on "Apply Online Now.")  Indicate which Teacherline course you are seeking graduate credit for, including the PBS section number; for example, RDLA 157.57. This will enable us to process your application for the correct class. In order to be eligible for graduate credit, you MUST have submitted your application to JMU before the last day of your class. NOTE: Please use the same email address on this application that you use with PBS Teacherline; this will allow us to match their records and record your grade correctly.
  3. Outreach & Engagement will enroll you in your PBS Teacherline class for graduate credit.  You DO NOT need to enroll in this class through MyMadison.  As soon as you are enrolled you will be sent a confirmation to the email address that you listed on your application.  This email will include information on activating your eID and paying your tuition bill.

Dropping a course with JMU does not cancel your request for graduate credit through JMU. As with all JMU credit classes, there are dates & deadlines that must be followed.  Drop dates and withdrawal dates may have already passed if you are filling out your application after the class has started.  Please be certain that if you are filling out the application after the class has started that you definitely want graduate credit for the class(es).  Withdrawing after the class has started may result in a “W” on your transcript or a grade earned from the instructor.  It may also result in tuition charges.  For more information about drop and withdrawal dates for a particular PBS Teacherline class, please contact our Admissions Coordinator at 540-568-2990.
