Week 2 

Morning Sessions

Ages 6 – 8

WHERE THE WILD THINGS LIVE -Smith

Description: Play with clay! Create relief habitats for crazy creatures that exist only in your imagination! Use clay to make cobblestone castles, underwater playgrounds, candy land islands and more! You’ll also make a papier mache creature! *Collaborates with Off The Wall: 3D Art

Acrylic and Watercolor Painting -Gusler

In this class you will learn a variety of painting techniques and use them to create wonderful paintings and monoprints (each one an original) that show your unique way of seeing. Create an acrylic painting on canvas that you can hang in your home.

Squirt, squash and high-five! -Nesmith

Love to make art? What about making lots and LOTS of art?? Designed for budding artists, this printmaking class will introduce you to several printing techniques, including stamping, relief printing, and monoprints. We’ll conclude our exploration of this classic art form with non-traditional printing processes! Make sure to bring a plain, pre-washed t-shirt for one of our projects!

OFF THE WALL: 3D ART -McMillan

Bring the imaginary world of dragons, fairies, aliens and sea monsters to life! In this class, we will transform our dreams into reality using papier mache and colorful paints! We’ll also make habitats out of clay. Come join the fun! *Collaborates with Where the Wild Things Live

Ages 6 – 12

PULP IT UP! -Sions

Recycle paper to create paper pulp to make your own paper mache and handmade paper! Handmade paper will then be used to create a variety of projects including origami, books, and paper cut outs.

Ages 9 -12

Metamorphosis -Shradley

Many things change over time like caterpillars to butterflies, and tadpoles to frogs. In this class you will explore how nature changes and adapts to the changing environment. We will create habitats and the animals that live in them.

Bland to Beautiful – Silk Painting -Brooks

Transform blank silk hoops and scarves to beautiful works of art. We will experiment with traditional resist and experimental techniques of dying silk. *We will be using permanent silk dyes – Please dress accordingly.

Go for the Gold... -Hall

...and make a trophy! We will make a clay “bust” and combine it with wood scraps, paper-mache and found objects to build a trophy that celebrates YOU!

Ages 12 – 17

Art under the Microscope -Goble

Explore the world of MACRO art by means of a computer. Transform the images of a deadly virus or a single scale of a butterfly’s wing into a work of art. Create your own works of macro photography. Students will need to provide their own digital camera and SD card.

Afternoon Sessions

Ages 6 – 8

Trash to Transportation… -Goble

Design, build and decorate your own Trains, Planes, and other methods of transportation using recycled materials. Create a Rubber Band Powered Pop Bottle Car with your own personal RACING logos. You may be the one who wins the race!

Paper Creations -Castrodale

Paper is much more than the boring white stuff we write on. This workshop will explore the world of possibilities with paper. Participants will learn to transform ho-hum and ordinary to wild and extraordinary while creating collages, sculptures, and much more! What can you make from a sheet of paper?

Artists start with simple themes and experiment with materials and techniques to create unexpected outcomes. We will work through several problem-solving methods to create unique projects. No two works of art will look the same.
