Alleged Policy Violation(s) Notification

If you receive an email from our office about possible violations of university policies, please note that it is just that - a notification about possible violations. We are contacting you because we received information that indicates you may have acted in a way that is not aligned with James Madison University's established guidelines of behavior. We have an accountability process in place that outlines how our office proceeds, which includes allowing you to have your voice heard about what happened and consideration of your student rights as a Responding Party.

There are two main things you should do when you receive a notice from our office, and you can do these in either order.

  • Call our office to schedule an appointment for your Administrative Case Review.

  • Research the accountability process so you will know what to expect.

You may have questions regarding our process and wish to speak with an Advisor, which can be any Administrator with the Office of Student Accountability and Restorative Practices other than your appointed University Case Administrator. An Advisor is not required, and many students feel comfortable meeting without one.

Depending on the nature of the incident, you may want to request view a copy of your case file from our office. File requests can take up to a few days to prepare. You may also ask to view it in the Administrative Case Review appointment. The rest of the process is outlined in the overview of the process.
