Maintain confidentiality

  • We do NOT expect that you will inform us if students self-disclose violations or are breaking policies. However we ask that you be willing to challenge and support them about their decisions and behaviors.
  • There is a limit to confidentiality—please share with us if the student discloses any information regarding sexual assault, sexual harassment, abuse of a minor(s) and harm to self/others if applicable. We are also required to keep statistics of domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking if the student choses to disclose this information.
  • If you are unsure of how to handle a confidential issue, please consult us.

Site Outline

  • Outline provides a timeline and details about the experience.

Time Sheet

  • You should be keeping this up to date independently of the student.
  • Do not let the student fill this out on their own or self-report their hours.
  • Include things you discuss during one-on-one meetings, activities given to student, and tasks assigned.
  • The timesheet must be submitted by email to your Civic Learning Coordinator.

Communicate

  • When students miss meetings or are not engaging in the experience please let us know right away.
  • Respond to requests for updates from your Civic Learning Coordinator in a timely manner.
  • Meet throughout the program for at least 30 minutes with your student.
  • It is the student's responsibility to initiate and maintain communication. However, if it has been a while since you have heard from your student and they are falling off track please contact them.
  • Provide them feedback on their work.
  • The first meeting should include a discussion about the office mission and the benefits of the program to the office and the student.
  • Other conversations or activities should be assisting them with time management, organization and interpersonal skills.

Once student has completed their hours:

  • Submit Time Sheet to your Civic Learning Coordinator via email.
  • Tell us if you would like another student or if you would like a break.
  • Fill out and turn in the Site Supervisor Feedback Form.
  • If you are unable to take on a student please let us know. We appreciate your help and want to respect your time.
