Welcome to the Office of the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity home page. We are happy that you stopped to visit our site.
Our intent is to provide resources, programs, support and advocacy to the lives of all within the JMU community. We strive to make and maintain an inclusive environment at JMU. This effort is not the undertaking of a few, but takes the entire engagement of the university community.
Diversity is the broad range of attributes, experiences, and characteristics (race, gender, cultural heritage, sexual orientation, physical/mental ability, age, national origin, etc) that make us uniquely who we are. At James Madison, inclusion means creating a work environment where each person has the opportunity to participate fully to achieve the mission of the University and is valued for their distinctive skills and capabilities.
A diverse workforce and inclusive environment increases productivity, creates new ideas, performs on a higher level and enhances James Madison’s ability to continue to excel in an increasingly complex, competitive and diverse world.
We provide a range of information, consultation and training to the James Madison community on issues related to workforce diversity, student success and inclusion.
As you navigate our site, you will see several programs and affiliations across campus designed for the sole purpose of supporting and engaging all our Faculty, Staff and Students. JMU has maintained a strong commitment to diversity, which is evident by our faculty and staff resources and the strong student experience available to our undergraduates.
Please contact us with any issues, concerns, ideas or suggestions. We continually look for new and exciting ways to engage the members of our community.
