What do I eat?
All on campus residents are required to have a meal plan. Resident meal plan options include the 14-Plus Plan, Weekly 11 Plus Plan, and 19-Plus Plan. Freshmen are automatically defaulted to the 14-Plus Plan. Meal plans, including punches and dining dollars, can be used at any of the on campus eateries in addition to the array of coffee bars and convenience stores on campus. Where can I park?
Freshman are not allowed to have vehicles on campus. Students who do have cars on campus are required to purchase a parking permit. Detailed information can be found on the Parking Services website.
How can I get to the mall?
The City of Harrisonburg offers an extensive bus route which is free for JMU students and faculty. Buses regularly travel to campus, the mall, and many of the apartment complexes. For an online bus schedule, visit the Harrisonburg Department of Public Transportation.
How do I get on the Internet?
All residence hall rooms are wired for Ethernet connection. For specific information regarding computer system compatibility on the JMU network, read the minimum support specifications.
Do I need a computer?
It is not necessary for a student to own a computer. A variety of computer labs are located across campus. All the student labs have word processing software, printing capabilities, and internet access.
How do I get telephone/cable service?
Telecommunications provides on-campus telephone, voice mail, and cable TV services to JMU faculty, staff and students. On-campus students are provided with residence hall courtesy phones in hallways. Courtesy phones and emergency phones are also provided across campus. Students may place on campus, local area and toll free calls from residence hall courtesy phones at no charge. A Telecom PIN (Personal Identification Number) is required for long distance calling. On campus students may request an individual residence hall room phone or a Telecom PIN by visiting the Telecommunications website. Cable TV service is provided to every residence hall room.
How do I get my mail?
