2013-2014 Year Housing Contracts

In order to live on campus for the 2013-14 academic year, a student must have a signed housing contract.

There are two ways to secure a housing contract:

  • New first year students had the opportunity to sign a 2nd year contract during the spring and summer. The 2nd year contract process has closed.
  • All current students can apply for a housing contract via the Online Housing System. By submitting a housing application you are letting the Office of Residence Life know of your interest in living on campus next year. An application is not a commitment to live on campus. The Office of Residence Life will make contract offers to students who submitted applications based on current contract availability. Contract offers are made to a student's JMU @dukes email address and have a deadline for contract acceptance.

Is a housing contract a back-up plan while I shop around for off-campus housing?

  • NO!  The contract is binding and you cannot cancel it at a later date.  If you sign the 2013-2014 contract you will have a space on-campus next year and billed for on-campus housing and a resident meal plan.

Where will I be assigned to live for the 2013-14 academic year?

  • All contract holders will choose their own assignment for 2013-14 based on a random lottery system. Below you will find a list of upperclass halls for the next academic year.  This list is subject to change however we do not anticipate any changes at this time.

** Approximately half of the Shenandoah spaces are reserved for contract holders who are also in the JMU Honors program.

If I signed a 2nd Year Contract, do I get priority in selecting a room?

  • No.  The room selection process is based on a random lottery system amongst all contract holders whether you sign a contract in April or the following January, contract signature date does not play a role.

What if my preferred hall(s) are already full when it is my turn to select a room?

  • You will have to select a space in another hall.  You are not guaranteed an assignment to any specific hall or room on campus.  You should be prepared to live in any of the halls listed above.

When do I choose my room?

  • Late February 2013. All contract holders will be emailed more details in late January 2013.

Will the 2013-2014 room rate be the same as this year?

  • No.  Room rates tend to increase 3% - 4% annually.  The JMU Board of Visitors will determine the 2013-14 rates during the spring 2013 semester.
