Moving In

PHOTO: Students moving in

The Office of Residence Life works closely with the entire University to insure a smooth and efficient move-in process for all of our residents each fall semester. On each of the new student move-in days, with the help of student and staff volunteers as well as University Police and Facilities Management personnel, we post special road signs, direct traffic, check-in residents, help unload vehicles and assist with moving students items from the parking lots to student rooms. Prior to your arrival on campus in the fall it is important that you know your approved move-in date. If you are a new student, please check your notification e-mail for your move-in date and other information. Returning students may move in on either August 21 or 22, 2009.

Please review the driving directions for your hall and the instructions for unloading and parking your vehicle(s) by clicking the link on the left.  It is extremely important that you follow the specific directions for your hall when you arrive for move-in.  Many of the Halls will not be accessible through other “normal” routes on these and access will be limited to the routes we have provided in these directions.  Information about bed types, lofts, refrigerators, etc. may also be found via these links.  Please take some time to review the information contained on these pages as most (if not all) of your move-in questions can be answered here.

Finally, please take a moment to review the sample Room Condition Form (RCF). The RCF is a document that shows the condition of your room when you move in.  It will be used as a tool to measure the condition of the room when you move out.  Examining the RCF when you check-in and confirming the condition of the room will help you avoid unwarranted damage charges at the end of the year.  If there are damages in your room and they are not noted on the check-in RCF, you could be held financially responsible for repairs after check-out.

If you have any questions about move-in please contact the housing office at (540) 568-4663 or res-life@jmu.edu.
