When I drove onto campus for the first time and there was yellow and purple everywhere.  It showed how much school spirit there was and how proud these students were of their school.  That's when I knew I was going to be a Duke.

What was the most challenging part of transferring?  The most challenging part was accepting the community and becoming a part of it. That doesn't sound like a difficult thing, but I think it can be for transfer students, especially if they come from a community college like I did. Most transfer students move into apartments in town, which automatically creates a certain degree of separation. I also started here living off-campus, so I spent little time on-campus, at first, and when I was there the number of people I saw just blew my mind--which made me a little nervous. Eventually, I had the courage to get to know some people and it got easier to adjust after that.

What was the most challenging part of transferring?  The one thing I feared in transferring to JMU was establishing myself socially.  At my last school, you did your work and go home, so the social scene wasn't really there.  But when I got to JMU there were so many people that I felt I would get lost in the crowd.  I found that by going to social events, you meet a lot of good genuine people.  Even the random people will have a conversation with you over practically anything.

How long did it take to adjust to James Madison University?  I really didn't start to feel at home until my second semester at JMU when I became involved with various organizations on campus. I think that it's so important to just throw yourself whole-heartedly into your new life at JMU- it truly does speed up the process of becoming comfortable and adjusted.

What was the most challenging part of transferring?   The most challenging part of transferring to JMU was adjusting to the different campus.  It was difficult at first to learn about all of the resources that JMU offers as well as the different classes.  Once I learned about everything that JMU offered, being a transfer student was no longer difficult.
